You need to be doing these 7 Easy Things to get people commenting on Instagram

Over the past few weeks, my business Instagram followers have grown along with comments, likes, and shares. This happened after a huge dip in followers when Instagram did a bot sweep along with never-ending algorithm changes.  Sorry to say the A-word. I had to.Here are 7 easy things you need to do to get people commenting on Instagram.

  1. Share Videos

7 Ways to Increase Engagement on Your Instagram Business PageI was skeptical about using video because the editing involved, but now I see the difference it makes.  People love videos! If you're camera shy, don't fret.  You don't have to be in the videos.  A slideshow with info about your product is what I'm talking about! Example, if you're a hair stylist you could have a slideshow (video) with the hottest hair colors.  If you're in real estate you could have a video featuring the latest home decor trends.Basically, you're piquing their interest with video.  You're giving them the info they want which builds trust.

2. Share Tips

7 Ways to Increase Engagement on InstagramYou don't have to give away the secret sauce to what makes your product so good! The tips you share should help your followers in everyday life do something better.I'm a designer and marketer. On Instagram, I share tips about promoting businesses on social media. Most of my followers are extremely business owners. Giving them bite-sized tips helps them make better posts. If you're a hairstylist, you could share tips about how DIY hair masks promote hair growth.  If you're a realtor you could share tips about how new homeowners can budget to get approved for a mortgage. If you're a Life Coach you could share tips about how to have a positive mindset.

3. Share Quotes

7 Ways to Increase Engagement on InstagramQuotes get lots of people commenting, liking, and sharing. Especially inspirational ones. Even if you aren't really into the idea of motivating others just share one that has helped you may help them. The cool thing about quotes is you can share some of your very own. People love those because it builds credibility and authority.

4. Comment More

Social Media is social. The more you comment the more comments you get. This helps you get more reach. On the follower feed your comment and replies show up on your feed and whoever you comment on's feed too. Their followers may click through to learn more about you.Warning: Make genuine comments. None of those fluff, bot comments like "nice pic" or "love it." Type four words or more, please.

5. Use Different Hashtags

7 Ways to Increase Engagement on Instagram Business AccountInstagram doesn't like if you use the same hashtags over and over. Switch it up every few posts. For example, in one post you could say #entrepreneur and in another post, you can say #entrepreneurlife or #entrepreneurtips.Go after really specific hashtags with 1,000 - 10k results instead of the popular trending hashtags with millions. Posting in the very popular hashtag is a waste of time. Your content would get lost.

6. Use the 80/20 Rule

I learned the 80/20 rule a while ago, but Aarin Chung of Honey Bar Media put a different spin on it in her YouTube video. Aarin says that you should post 80% lifestyle and helpful posts and 20% promotional. So basically four every 4 helpful and lifestyle posts you share you can then talk about your own product, service, video or blog. This is totally different from what gurus have been preaching. They say share 80% of other people's content and 20% of yours. It's so funny because those same gurus had blog posts months later saying that they changed their strategy. Well, DUH! Why would you send 80% of your traffic to someone else?CustomAds
